Razor Bastard: Rise Of Dick Machine Review

bilbo6

I got a chance to review the second volume of the story of Razor Bastard, a pervy, psychotic, murdering antihero. He’s back and bolder than ever spilling as much blood as ever and wise cracking even more. There’s a bit of mystery and a lot more to this story than the first one which you can read my review of by clicking Here!

Adrian Blackstone and his partner are after the leader of a cult that’s brutally sacrificing young girls to the demon they prey to in the hopes of something rising and taking over the world. This all goes the crap for them when Blackstone finds what he thinks is their leader but it’s not that simple, his partner gets attacked and then it’s a hunt for that person who surprisingly has a good reason for wanting to kill a bunch of cops.

Enter Razor Bastard, he’s on his own mission to kill a flashing paedo leprechaun lollipop man, yes you read that exactly right. After a wise cracking battle with the naked kiddy flasher Razor is caught by the police and asked to help in their investigation with who attacked Blackstone’s partner.

This book introduces us not only to Adrian Blackstone the cop but also to a whole host of other weird and wonderful characters, from Blackstone’s brother the Doctor Strange inspired wizard to………bilbo4

A bunch of criminals one of which is obsessed with making puns about his electrical powers and in typical fashion the ridiculousness of this scene is pointed out by the characters in the book, as well as High Voltage’s silly puns also being taken the piss out of.

Everything leads to some revelations about Razor Bastards life from before his run as a psychotic antihero/reborn supervillain. As I mentioned this is so full of gore and messed up characters it’s worth anyone’s time especially if you love over the top kills from demented characters.

However best of all about “Rise of Dick Machine” is the author adding more to his world. There’s hints and full blown nods to the past, maybe we’d all become Razor Bastard if we were in his boots, it’s a scary thought but a true one. As you read you can see why the author loves this character so much and it really shines through as the book moves on.

Retaining it’s nature as a fucked up 90’s cartoon with a gory perverted jokey tone it’s all you could want and I for one am jealous that I never came up with the lead character. I’m also surprised no one has created someone/something like Razor Bastard before, in a world or reboots, remakes and blatant copying this is a unique and amusing gory ride from start to finish.

Overall Rating – 8.5/10
